Undone: The Urban // Hybrid Mechanical Quartz Flyback Chronograph (BNIB)

If your looking for something truly fun and interesting in the sub-$500 range, you may want to linger on this one for a while...

This vintage-inspired chronograph from the Hong-Kong based, Undone Watches, manages to balance accessibility with tasteful design, all with an enthusiast-driven vibe. Undone is unique in that it is one of the only watch brands that offers customizable designs...well they are at least the one that offers some of the most interesting, and eclectic designs. 

The Urban is one of their standard base models that, when ordering directly from the brand, offers 9 levels of customization. The one available here in the Watchable Shop is the "Vintage Salmon" base design (without any further customizations beyond the dial colour and configuration), and in my opinion, in its simplest form, quite tastefully pulls from the classical design language of 1940's and 50's chronographs. The sunburst pastel salmon-coloured pink dial is so impressively executed for a watch at this price point that, at first, I had to question the price tag.

I just love the nostagiac vibes of this piece, and when I held it in my hands, I was so impressed, that I had to check the price tag, yet a third time.  

Running on the Japanese TMI VK64 Mechanical-Quartz Hybrid Flyback Chronograph movement, you get the accuracy of quartz with a mechanically engaged chronograph. When activated, the chronograph hand sweeps smoothly, akin to a Grand Seiko Spring Drive. While not as advanced, or well-finished as the luxurious Spring Drive, Undone felt that this movement was special enough, that it deserved your gaze through an exhibition case back. I'm glad they did, because it really adds to the overall charm of this piece.
