ABOUT THE ref. 79190
The Tudor Submariner Ref. 79190 represents the final chapter in Tudor’s long-running Submariner line, produced through the early to mid-1990s before the collection was retired in 1999. With its Rolex-built Oyster case, tritium lume, and classic Submariner DNA, the 79190 offers the very last true Tudor-Rolex Submariner reference in a full 40mm case size, and has become a highly sought-after reference among collectors.
Introduced in the early 1990s, the 79190 carried forward the robust build and tool-watch heritage of earlier Tudor Subs while incorporating subtle updates that marked the end of an era. Its 40mm Oyster case is familiar, versatile, and enduring, while its matte black tritium dial harks back to vintage roots, offering warmth and charm that modern counterparts simply can’t replicate. With its mix of period-correct details and transitional late-Submariner character, the 79190 has earned a reputation as one of the most collectible Tudor divers of the ‘90s.
THIS EXAMPLE
This particular example, dating to 1995, has been freshly serviced by our watchmaker and is running beautifully. The case remains unpolished, showing honest signs of wear with light nicks and scratches on the flanks with no major distractions. WIth a classic 40mm case diameter, and at 10.4mm thick with a 47mm lug-to-lug and 20mm lug width, it wears with the presence of a professional dive watch while remaining versatile and compact enough for daily use.
The original matte black tritium dial is untouched, with luminous plots that remain wonderfully puffy and have just begun to show some subtle patina. The bezel rotates perfectly with a firm, smooth click, completing the diver’s profile. The bracelet is the correct 9315 folded-link Oyster with 380B end links, in superb condition, currently fitting up to an 18cm wrist (excluding the extension). The sapphire crystal with cyclops is in excellent condition.
For collectors, this 79190 represents a milestone: the last of the Tudor Submariners, complete with its Rolex case, tritium dial, and rugged presence. It’s a watch that speaks to both the end of an iconic lineage and the timeless appeal of Tudor’s golden era of dive watches.
