A Note from the Curator
Omega has served as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, and this watch was created to celebrate that remarkable century-long partnership. The Seamaster Olympic Games Gold Collection was designed as a trio representing the podium medals, and this 18k yellow gold version naturally captures the spirit of the top prize, Olympic gold.
What makes this watch especially compelling to me is how restrained it is. Instead of creating something overly commemorative, Omega leaned into vintage Seamaster design with a perfectly balanced 39.5mm case (with a slender 12mm thickness), and twisted lyre lugs that feel straight out of the brand’s 1960s playbook.
And then there’s the dial. Enamel dials are an absolute favorite of mine, and Omega rarely uses them today. The softly domed eggshell-white enamel dial, paired with the vintage-style red Omega logo, gives this watch a warmth and depth that photos barely capture (you bet I tried).
all-in-all, in the spirit of capturing true vintage character, design, and materials, they trely knocked it out of the park with this one.
That being so, Omega wasn’t afraid to go modern spec on the movement. Inside beats Omega’s Master Chronometer calibre 8807, visible through the display back and surrounded by a subtle gold ring engraved with every Olympic host city from Los Angeles 1932 through Los Angeles 2028.
In my opinion, this is one of Omega’s most underrated modern releases, an elegant, historically meaningful piece that feels far more like a thoughtful collector’s watch than a typical commemorative edition. And when you can find a piece this new (just two weeks old at the time of writing this), it’s a great opportunity to get your own taste of the Olympic Gold!
Happy hunting,
Brent
