Produced during an especially interesting transitional era for Rolex, the Ref. 16000 represents the moment the Datejust began evolving into its more modern form while still retaining many of the traits collectors love most about vintage examples. You get the warmth of a plexiglass crystal, creamy tritium lume, slimmer case proportions, and drilled-lug era charm, but paired with the upgraded Caliber 3035 featuring quickset date functionality and a higher beat rate than its predecessors.
This particular example stands out immediately for its condition.
The smooth bezel configuration gives the watch a restrained, almost Oyster Perpetual-like sportiness that feels incredibly versatile on the wrist. Combined with the brushed Oyster bracelet, the result is a cleaner, more tool-oriented take on the Datejust compared to its fluted counterparts.

CONDITION REPORT & CONTENTS
Case & Bezel
The stainless steel case remains in exceptional overall condition, showing significantly less wear than typically seen on a watch of this age. The case was likely lightly polished by Rolex during its 2010 service to Rolex specifications, with edges and finish intact. The case retaining strong factory contours, crisp edges, thick lugs, and clean brushed finish. The smooth bezel presents beautifully. Only a single small flea bite on the upper left lug is noted and some flea bites on the case-back.
Dial & Hands
The original silver tritium dial is beautifully preserved, with clean surfaces and fully intact, puffy lume plots aged to a warm cream tone. The original hands retain matching lume, creating excellent visual consistency across the dial. Very slight but clean degradation is present on the minute hand lume, though there are absolutely no signs of moisture exposure or dial damage, tarnishing, or oxidation.
Bracelet
The watch is fitted with its correct Rolex 78360 Oyster bracelet with 558 end links, dated to 1983 and matching the production period of the watch. The bracelet remains in excellent condition overall with minimal surface wear and presents exceptionally well on the wrist. Includes 13 total links, fitting any wrist.
Movement
Powered by the Rolex Caliber 3035 automatic movement with quickset date functionality and chronometer-certified precision. The watch was last serviced by Rolex in Dec, 2010 and continues to run flawlessly.
