Oris is one of those brands that I've developed a burning curiosity for, but haven't had the opportunity to experience in the metal...until now. After handling this watch, and photographing it, I must say, the Oris buzz is all its cracked up to be...AND THEN SOME.

Oris seems to have it all - a respect for history, a very clear priority towards quality, and a design palette that embraces a funky twist on tradition. For all these reasons, Oris, as a brand, speaks to the collector in me. And this bronze chronograph in particular, a tribute to one of the most inspiring men you can possibly imagine, touches on exactly what I love most about watches. I’m so fired up about this watch!

HONOURING CARL BRASHEAR

Oris's sense of story shines through in the very essence of this watch. Steeped in meaning, this watch pays tribute to Carl Brashear, the first African American to graduate from the U.S. Navy Diving and Salvage School, and later the first African American to achieve the rank of Master Diver.

Brashear was, and remains, an iconic figure in the books of U.S. Navy history. Most notably due to his involvement in a daring recovery mission following the 1966 Palomares B-52 crash, which resulted in the loss of a Mark-28 hydrogen bomb. While in pursuit of the missing weapon of mass-destruction, an on-deck accident left Brashear injured, resulting in the amputation of his leg. 

In the aftermath of this accident, Brashear's determination is the stuff legends are made of. Forging ahead as the U.S. Navy's first amputee diver, Brashear carried on with his training, despite his impediment. He continued to climb Navy ranks, eventually to reach Master Diver status. Brashear's incredible story is depicted in the 2000 film, Men of Honor. 

This fabulous piece is the 2nd Oris watch paying tribute to Carl Brashear, and developed in collaboration with the Carl Brashear Foundation. This watch is limited to 2000 pieces.

CONDITION & SPECS

This example is in excellent condition. The touch bronze case has no scratches or dings worth mentioning. A few light surface scratches are visible on the outer ring of the case-back, as seen in the pictures. Patina has started to reveal itself on the case, a natural aging which is to be expected from a bronze watch over time. This patina will continue to develop, further adopting a look that that will be specific to this watch, making it uniquely yours. 

This is a full set. The watch comes with the original  wooden presentation box, all the booklets, including the official certificate, warranty card, and product manual, and original sales receipt.
