Affectionately nicknamed the "Roulette bezel" due to its resemblance to a roulette wheel, this unique take on the chronograph is as functional as it is funky. The "pilot" variation of the Chronostop impressively combines the sky and the sea with both a GMT-style 24 hour inner-rotating bezel (capable of tracking a 2nd timezone for pilots, and jet-setters), as well as a unique single button chronograph function for timing short intervals of a nautical nature.

WHY IT'S SPECIAL

While this unique chronograph may have lived in the terrestrial shadows of the Speedmaster, it undeniably held its own in the Omega lineup with diverse functionality, and a funky aesthetic.

First introduced in 1967 as part of the Seamaster line, these Chronostops run on the caliber 865, a simplified version of the famous 861 movement found in the more upscale Speedmaster, but were sold for just half the retail price in the late 60's. Boasting exceptional value at a time when the Speedmaster reigned supreme, the Chronostop was, and continues to be a knockout value prop.

One of the most interesting features of this watch (and there are many) is the short interval timer chronograph function. With a press of the single chrono pusher, the bright orange sweeping hand is engaged. Upon the second press, and release, the chrono-hand snaps back to reset position. It's a very active and fun way to use a chronograph.

The bezel is perhaps the most stand-out visual feature of the watch - a colorful 24hr inner-rotating bezel (supercompressor-style), which is engaged by one of the two crowns (the one positioned at 10 o'clock). This provides a handy 2nd timezone tracker for those moving across timezones.

CONDITION & SPECS

This freshly serviced Chronostop is in excellent condition, inside and out, and is running as it should. The tritium-filled hands, and pie-shaped 12-hour marker have uniformly aged to a rich golden cream color. Each of the other indices are anchored with a tiny circular dollop of tritium, which also reveal a patina consistent with the rest of the watch. The near-flawless dial, hands, plexiglass crystal (which still clearly shows the omega insignia inscription at the centre), and pushers are all original and clean.

The time-setting crown at 4 0'clock was replaced with an authentic Omega-stamped crown in its recent service. The original crown will be included in the package. All other crowns and pushers are original. There is very minimal wear to the tip of the original crown, and some visible nicks around the steel case due to honest wear over the years. The dial, with its bright orange accents, and flawlessly aged tritium patina are the real stars of the show here.
