Issued in 1962 to the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Omega HA-62 is one of the rarest, small batch military chronographs ever produced by the brand. It's estimated that just 443 examples were made, with only a handful surviving today (some estimates claim as little as 275 remaining), making this an elite-level find for serious collectors.
Originally part of a Canadian military contract, these HA-62 watches were delivered by Omega, Breitling, Lemania, and Rodania—all built around variations of the Lemania 2220-series movement. Omega’s version featured the Caliber 2221 mono-pusher, a hacking seconds movement produced in collaboration with Lemania under the SSIH group. This movement is exclusive to the RCAF Omega, and was not used in any civilian chronographs.
Cases were shared across brands, and parts were often interchangeable -- one reason you'll see some variation in chrono hands, for example.
And just to make this watch even rarer: Omega themselves reportedly destroyed many of the HA-62’s records and service parts in the ‘90s and early 2000s. So finding one like this—with intact RCAF engravings, and a healthy movement—is a heck of a find!
CONDITION
This example is in outstanding vintage condition, with clear RCAF serial engravings (HA-62 938) on the caseback, signed service crown, and an untouched dial. The hands and indices have aged well, and the orange chronograph hand is crisp and vibrant, with a small paint chip at the centre.
The Lemania 2221 movement is in strong working order, and the chrono is working as it shoot, with great action on the pusher.
