A chronograph with genuinely serious watchmaking pedigree hiding beneath a perfectly compact 35mm case, and mother-of-pearl detailed dial, the Carl F. Bucherer Manero MonoGraph is one of those rare modern pieces that rewards the collector who appreciates intricate dial work, and serious engineering.

A NOTE FROM THE CURATOR

Produced in the early to mid-2010s, the Manero MonoGraph arrived during a fascinating period for Carl F. Bucherer, when the brand was investing heavily into high-end mechanical watchmaking and collaborating with some of the most respected minds in horology. At the heart of this watch is the beautifully executed CFB 1962, a column wheel chronograph caliber developed by THA (Techniques Horlogères Appliquées), the famed movement atelier founded by François-Paul Journe, Denis Flageollet, and Vianney Halter.

For collectors of Cartier, the movement architecture here will feel immediately recognizable. Developed from the same THA roots as the movement used in the Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir CPCP, the CFB 1962 carries with it the same refined chronograph DNA, thoughtful construction, and mechanical sophistication that made those Cartier pieces so celebrated among enthusiasts.

What makes this example especially compelling is how much watch is packed into such an elegant and wearable footprint. Measuring just 35mm across and only 11mm thick, the MonoGraph wears with the proportions of a classic vintage chronograph while delivering the reliability and finishing standards of a modern luxury timepiece. The stepped multi-layer dial is particularly impressive in person, featuring recessed chronograph registers with mother-of-pearl detailing, applied indices, and a beautifully balanced monochromatic palette that shifts subtly depending on the light.

Turn the watch over and the display back reveals something beautiful...the signed 31 jewel column wheel movement, finished to a standard befitting its THA lineage. The mono-pusher chronograph action, activated through a beautiful knurled crown/pusher, is crisp and satisfying, operating exactly as a proper column wheel chronograph should.

Originally retailed at approximately $21,500, the Manero MonoGraph represents one of the more overlooked values in modern (or soon to be neo-vintage) watchmaking, offering genuine horological substance, elegant sizing, and an unusual level of mechanical pedigree for the money.

Happy hunting,

- Brent

CONDITION REPORT & CONTENTS

The watch is presented in excellent overall condition, and appears to have been hardly worn. Showing virtually no noticeable wear throughout, the stainless steel case retains its original mix of satin and high polish finishing, with only extremely minor superficial hairlines visible under close inspection. Two small marks from a strap-changing tool are present on the back of one of the lower lugs.

The original OEM duo-texture stitched leather strap is unworn, while the signed stainless steel tang buckle remains in pristine condition.

The mono-pusher chronograph operates flawlessly, starting, stoping, and resetting correctly to zero.

The watch comes complete with:

  • Inner and outer boxes
  • MonoGraph operating manual
  • Original sticker tag, and matching serialized hang tags
