The ultimate bridge between 18th-century genius and modern-day watchmaking science.

A NOTE FROM THE CURATOR

Breguet has always been the name whispered with reverence among serious collectors. After all, this is the house that invented the tourbillon, the gong spring, the Breguet overcoil, and even the wristwatch itself. But what often goes unappreciated is how forward-thinking the brand still is today.

The Classique Chronométrie 7727 is not merely a tribute to Breguet’s heritage, it’s a declaration that innovation is still at the core of its DNA. Beneath its traditional guilloché dial beats one of the most technically advanced movements in modern horology: the calibre 574DR, featuring a 10 Hz silicon escapement and magnetic pivots that suspend the balance staff in an artificial field of gravity (a segment of which is made viewable through a playfully clever cutout in the upper-right part of the dial). It’s a watch that merges physics and poetry, a mechanical achievement so advanced it won the Aiguille d’Or (Best in Show) at the 2014 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

To wear the 7727 is to experience what Abraham-Louis Breguet himself might have built if given access to 21st-century materials. It’s not just a watch for those who love Breguet, it’s for those who appreciate the history, and physics of brilliant watchmaking.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the brand’s name is synonymous with invention. From the overcoil balance spring to the pare-chute shock system and the first wristwatch ever made, nearly every cornerstone of modern horology carries Breguet’s signature. But the Classique Chronométrie 7727 proves that innovation didn’t end with the man himself.

This reference represents a modern renaissance for Breguet. An era defined by technical experimentation hidden within classical design. With the 574DR movement, Breguet pushed beyond traditional chronometry:

  • The 10 Hz escapement: Doubles the frequency of most high-beat movements, allowing for extreme precision and a mesmerizingly fast seconds hand rotation every two seconds. You have to see it in motion to fully understand how cool it is.

  • Magnetic pivots: An invention unique to Breguet, suspend the balance staff using opposing magnetic fields, drastically reducing friction and protecting the escapement from shocks. This part is actually viewable through a uniquely-shaped cutout on the dial.

  • Extensive use of silicon components: This eliminates the need for lubrication and ensures perfect anti-magnetism.

Despite the avant-garde technology, the presentation is pure Breguet. The off-centered dial is adorned with six distinct guilloché patterns, painstakingly cut by hand on century-old rose engines. The open-tipped blued steel hands, fluted caseband, and “secret” engraved signatures are all hallmarks of the brand’s lineage.

The result is a timepiece that unites Breguet’s two identities: the romanticism of the 18th century and the relentless precision of modern physics  into a uniquely spectacular watch.
